"Union Cabinet launches Geosynchronous Satellite Launch on 15th April, 2019"!

  • The Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the fourth phase of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) on April 15, 2019. Fourth phase involves 5 GSLV flights during the period of 2021-24.
  • GSLV Program - Step 4 will provide the ability to launch two-ton class satellites for geo-imaging, navigation, data relay communication and space science. For this mission, a total fund of Rs. 2729.13 crore will be required.
  • Includes the cost of 5 GSLV vehicles, increased facilities, program management and launch campaign cost. Excess funds will be required under the prospects of existing GSLV continuity program.
  • GSLV has got free access to space in order to launch two-ton class satellites in connection with Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). One of the most important consequences of the GSLV continuity program is that it has gained a lot of complex cryogenic propulsion technology, which is very important for the technology capability to launch communication satellites in the GTO. This has led to the development of high energy cryogenic engine and the next generation of launch vehicle i.e. GSLV MK-3.With successful launch of GSLV-F11 on December 19, 2018
  • GSLV successfully sailed 10 national satellites into class. With Indigenous Cryogenic Upper Stage, GSLV has established herself as a trusted launch vehicle in connection with communication, shipping and meteorological satellites and to launch a future inter-planetary campaign.
  • The GSLV continuation program was approved in 2003 and two phases have been completed. The third phase is in progress and it is expected that it will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2020-21.
