How did the controversy start?
After the fire broke out on June 13 in two US oil tankers, the tensions between the two countries increased. The United States blamed Iran for the attack on oil tankers in the Bay of Oman. Earlier this year, the US had raised the finger towards the Islamic Republic about similar attacks in this strategic maritime area in May 2019. External Affairs Ministry quoted US Secretary of State Mike Pompeio as saying that the US government believes Iran is responsible for the attacks in the Gulf.
