Cyclonic storm 'Fani' reached Odisha coast

Cyclonic storm Phani reached the Odisha coast between Gopalpur and Chandbali on 03 May 2019 to the south of Puri. During this time the wind speed is likely to be 175-185 kilometers per hour to 205 kilometers per hour. Odisha government has sent 11 lakh people to safer places in the wake of security.

Fani storm is considered to be so alarming because sea level at high tide usually climbs up to 7 meters for the eastern coast. In such a case, due to the severe cyclonic storm, there is a possibility of a further rise of one and a half meters in the ocean waves.

Mood of the Meteorological sources may affect the impact of the blighting storm on about 15 districts. Alerts have also been issued in the neighboring states of Odisha. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility that the fonies of Ganjam, Gajapati, Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Balasore coastal areas are likely to come in the grip.

Red alert is continuing in the Srikakulam district of the North coastal Andhra Pradesh, because there is a possibility of heavy rains with strong winds during the storm. Along with the Bay of Bengal, along with the Vijayanagram district, Visakhapatnam and Eastern Godavari districts are also expected to be affected.
