A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi issued this order on the petition of Apollo Hospitals. Apollo Hospital located in Chennai in December, 2016. The Tamil Nadu government formed the judicial commission to investigate the causes of Jayalalitha's death.

Apollo Hospital had filed an appeal with the request of staying in judicial examination in the Supreme Court against this decision. It was also demanded in the petition that doctors of Apollo Hospitals should be exempted from appearing before the Commission. While issuing the details of the conditions of the inquiry commission, the Tamil Nadu government had said that the Commission would examine the various circumstances and circumstances related to the hospital.

Jayalalitha was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai on September 22, 2016.
