Sohail Mahmood, who was Pakistan's High Commissioner to India, took charge of the country's new Foreign Secretary on April 17, 2019 and met Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi to discuss issues related to the country's foreign policy. Sohail Mahmood has replaced Tahameena Janjua, who retired from office on April 16 after serving as Foreign Secretary of Pakistan for two years.
Sohail Mahmood has previously served as the ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey. Prior to this, he has served as a permanent representative of Thailand's Ambassador and UNESCO Bangkok until 2013, till four years. Mahmood has also worked as a political coordinator for the Pakistan delegation in the United Nations Security Council before taking office in Bangkok.
