Jalan committee can recommend transfer of three lakh crores

According to a report by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, the committee formed under the chairmanship of former central bank governor Bimal Jalan on RBI's reserve fund could recommend a transfer of up to Rs 1-3 lakh crore to the government. Significantly, till September 2018, there was a reserve of 9.6 lakh crore in the reserve bank of RBI.

There is no restriction in the transfer of additional funds from the Reserve Bank to the government. A six-member committee formed under the chairmanship of former RBI governor Bimal Jalan was formed when there was a strong debate about the transfer of Reserve Bank's reserve fund to the government.
