The World Press Freedom Index-2011 report was released by the International Organization, Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on April 18, 2019. In this report, India's ranking has dropped two places to 140th place compared to last year.

In the World Press Freedom Index, India was ranked 136th in 2017 and 138th in 2018 and now it has dropped two points to 140. A total of 180 countries have been included in this survey.
According to the survey, the supporters of the current central government are targeted on the social network, and hate statements are encouraged.
Journalists of online campaigns of fundamentalist nationalists are becoming increasingly targeted. At the same time, the hardcore nationalists threaten physical violence. In this report, during the general elections, it has been told the most dangerous time for journalists in India.
According to this study, due to its work in 2018 at least six journalists have died in India. In the report, concerns have also been expressed about hateful campaigns on social media against journalists speaking or writing on Hindutva topics.
It is said in this report that it is very difficult to report the areas where the administration considers to be sensitive, such as Kashmir. Foreign journalists are not allowed to go to Kashmir and there is often disconnected internet.
In South Asia, in the case of freedom of the press, Pakistan is at number three position and ranks 142st.
Bangladesh slipped four places to 150th place. Norway is on the third consecutive year, while Finland is in second place. The lowest ranking is from Turkmenistan, which is 180, while North Korea is at 179th place.
It has been said in the report that attacks in journalists have increased in Europe compared to earlier, which is a matter of concern for the press freedom. Increasing the oral attacks of politicians against journalists in Europe has also been accepted.
