10% EWS Quota Funding

10% EWS

New Delhi: The government has approached the Election Commission for permission to use an additional Rs 4,200 crore for implementing the recently announced 10% quota for economically weaker sections (EWS) among the unreserved category.

The proposal for additional fund was sent to the Cabinet for approval but wasn’t taken up in the last few meetings due to other pressing matters. It is gathered that the Cabinet Secretariat has now referred it to the EC for permission to clear the proposal

The human resource development (HRD) ministry has sought the additional fund to implement the reservation across all higher education institutes, starting from this academic session.

The ministry has also sent a proposal to EC for allowing the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to appoint over 6,000 teachers. The final selection procedure could not be completed before March 10, the day when the EC announced Lok Sabha elections.
