RTE (Amendment) Bill, 2018 passed


  1. On 3 January 2019, the Parliament passed the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2018.
  2. The Parliament empowered states to detain weak students in the same class if they fail to pass annual exams.
  3. As per the current provisions of RTE Act, no student can be detained up to class 8th.
  4. The bill also allows the reintroduction of examinations for primary schools.
