Lt Governors can set up special courts

  1. Lieutenant Governors (LGs) and Administrators of Union territories have been empowered by the central government to designate civil courts as special courts to adjudicate contracts relating to infrastructure projects.
  2. The Union Home Ministry passed an order to this effect on 3 December 2018.
  3. The decision was taken due to the large pendency of cases relating to infrastructure projects in UTs.
