The United Nations celebrated 30 June as the International Day of Parliamentarity. The role of parliaments in international plans and strategies is celebrated as an objective to identify and ensure greater transparency and accountability at national and global levels.

The formation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union has also been accepted on this day, which was established in 1889.
