The Prime Minister, the Economic Advisory Council, has set up a Beekeeping Development Committee under the chairmanship of Bibek Debroy to identify ways to advance Beekeeping in India. Some recommendations in the report include:- Suggesting honey beekeeping as an input for agriculture and considering landless beekeepers to be farmers.
- Organizing the National Bee Board and rename it to the Honey and Polytechner Board of India
- Planting bee-friendly vegetation at appropriate places and involving women self-help groups in the management of such plantation
- Training and development of beekeepers by State Governments
- Development of national and regional infrastructure for storage, processing and marketing of honey and other bee products
- To simplify procedures and to specify clear standards for ease of export of honey and other bee products
