Balakot Air Strike Scheme Samant Goyal becomes Raw Chief

The Central Government has announced the names of the new heads of Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the country's intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). The government appointed Samant Goyal, IPS officer of 1984 batch, as head of intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). In addition, IPS officer Arvind Kumar has been made Director of Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Arvind Kumar has been appointed in place of former IB director Rajiv Jain. Samant Goyal, the new Chief of Raw, will replace Anil Kumar Dhasmana, the current Chief, who is retiring after two and a half years of excellent service. Both officials will hold the post from June 30.

According to reports, Samant Goyal, IPS officer of Punjab Cadre, had complete planning of Balakot air strikes. After the terrorist attack on the convoy of CRPF in Pulwama, Jammu, Kashmir, Indian Air Force had infiltrated into Balakot, Pakistan, by air strikes. More than 40 CRPF jawans were martyred in the Pulwama terror attack. Indian Air Force targeted the hideouts of militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad in Balakot.

When Punjab was in the grip of militancy in 1990, Samant Goyal did commendable work while campaigning against militancy.
