'Varun' bilateral maneuvers of Indian and French navies

'Varun'


The first part of the joint naval exercise of Indian and French Navy, Varuna, is being held from 1 to 10 May, 2019 near Goa Seashore.

In the upcoming 17th event, French naval carrier FNS Charles de Gaulle, two destroyers, FNS Forbrain and FNS Provence, Frigate FNS Latch-Treville, tanker FNS Marne and a nuclear submarine will be involved.

In this exercise, the Indian navy will be involved in the involvement of aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, destroyer INS Mumbai, Tag-Class Frigate, INS Tekkesh, Shishumar-class submarine, INS Shankul, Deepak-Class Fleet Tanker and INS Deepak.

This exercise will be organized in two phases. The Harbor Phase, organized in Goa, will include naval officers' visits, professional talks and discussions and sports events from both the countries. In the ocean phase, exercises related to various types of marine operations will be included.
