Russia successfully tests hypersonic missile

1. Russia’s Defence Ministry successfully conducted the final tests of the ‘Avangard’ hypersonic missile system on 26 December 2018.
2. The intercontinental ‘Avangard’ system would be ready for use from 2019.
3. It can fly at 20 times the speed of sound and can be maneuvered up and down.
4. It is designed using new composite materials to withstand temperatures of up to 2,000 degrees Celsius.
