Japan announces withdrawal from IWC

1. Japan has announced its withdrawal from the International Whaling Commission (IWC)in 2019.
2. It will resume commercial hunting of whales in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone from July 2019.
3. Japan will not be able to continue hunting of whale for the scientific research in the Antarctic.
4. Japan joins Iceland and Norway which defies the IWC’s ban on commercial whale hunting.
