Italy’s Mount Etna erupts


  1. Italy’s Mount Etna erupted on 24 December 2018, causing a magnitude 3.3 earthquake and the closure of Sicily’s Catania Airport.
  2. The Mount Etna observatory said lava had spewed from a new fracture near its south-eastern crater.
  3. Mount Etna is Europe’s highest and most active volcano.
  4. In June 2013, it was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
