India lost $86 billion due to power distortion

  1. World Bank published the new report titled ‘In the Dark: How Much Do Power Sector Distortions Cost South Asia’. 
  2. As per the report, distortions in the power sector annually cost India around $86.1 billion or 4.1% of GDP due to power distortions in 2016. 
  3. It also said that India achieved 100% village electrification in 2018 and 178 million Indians still remain unconnected to the grid.
